When Barack Obama was elected, he and the Democrats insisted that we could spend our way out of this crisis. Remember that? Remember the $787 billion stimulus bill that needed to be passed IMMEDIATELY in order to start our economy on its way to recovery? Yeah ... the bill that was essentially written by hard-left, anti-capitalistic activist groups like The Apollo Alliance. Well more than six months later, we have unemployment creeping up on 10%. And we have this ..... from Bloomberg:

President Barack Obama's effort to lead the world economic recovery by spending the U.S. out of its recession is undermining the dollar, triggering record commodities rallies as investors scour the globe for hard assets.

Did you hear that, folks? Isn't that just wonderful? Isn't that just the type of change you voted for? All of this spending ... all of this printing of money ... all of these government dreams and schemes and bailouts .... they are starting to affect America. Big time.

The dollar went into "crisis mode" earlier this week when the euro and the yen surpassed the dollar as the favored currency by central banks.

Thank you Oh Great Chosen One ... the American dollar on the back bench. That's the type of change we voted for, isn't it?

Then we get reports like this from the New York Post:

After printing up trillions of new dollars and new bonds to stimulate the US economy, the Federal Reserve chief is now boxed into a corner battling two separate monsters that could devour the economy -- ravenous inflation on one hand, and a perilous recession on the other.

"He's in a crisis worse than the meltdown ever was," said Peter Schiff, president of Euro Pacific Capital. "I fear that he could be the Fed chairman who brought down the whole thing."

Bringing "the whole thing" down! Even MORE change you can believe in!

Don't you see what has happened here, folks? Obama has succeeded in weakening America. Low interest rates, flooding the economy with money by simply printing it, a mounting pile of debt. So now ask you again ... how's this hopey, changey, spendy thing working out for ya? Better yet, how is it going to work out for your grandchildren?

Have you visited your local strip mall shopping lately? It is starting to get depressing (no pun intended). It seems that in some local malls there are more empty storefronts with signs advertising their availability than there are occupied spaces open for business. Almost every empty storefront represents a small business that has failed and closed.

These small businesses are the backbone of American commerce and employment. Not only is every empty storefront a lost dream for a business owner, it represents lost jobs for employees. Small businesses employ about 70% of the American workforce and account for 80% of a new jobs in our economy.

Is there anything we can do while our esteemed Congress sets about the task of stroking larger businesses and campaign contributors? Yes. We can go out of our way to become small business customers. I now do everything I can to buy whatever it is I need from a small business. I'll try to stay away from the big box scores as much as practicable. Groceries, socks, hardware, restaurants ... whatever ... I'll look for the small independent businesses. If more people would do the same we might be able to help some of these small businesses stay alive until this economic crisis has passed. Certainly worth a try.

RECESSION LARDASSIFICATION

This statistic should astound you .. then again, if you have been to Disney World lately, maybe not. The number of American adults who are obese has surpassed the number of adults who are merely overweight. More than 34% of adults are considered obese. That is more than 72 million Americans. This is compared to 32.7% of adults who are just overweight. I'm not a genius, but that means that almost 70% of our population is made up of lardassess ... blubber butts .. however you want to classify them.

But don't worry, now we have an excuse. Because of the downturn in the economy, health professionals are worried that Americans are going to gain more weight. More weight?? They are calling it "recession pounds" and it is exactly what you think: people in a recession spend less money on food and end up buying a lot of junk and fluff for their money. They aren't eating as healthy and therefore gain weight. Naturally this affects the poor the most. EVERYTHING affects the poor the most. Even the end of the world will have a disproportionate affect on the poor. Don't worry .. I'm sure the Obama administration is working on a government program to make grocery-buying a fair playing field for everyone.
