UH OH! NOT RACISM!

You are going to love this. It's always fun when someone cries "racism" nowadays, because the word has been so incredibly watered down. It means absolutely nothing. It is a joke. And in this case, it is a labor union crying "racism!" Even more fun.

Here's the scenario. The Chamber of Commerce released an ad attacking Obamacare, explaining why it will be bad for America. The ad, which you can watch here, shows a boss who is distraught about having to fire an employee. As the boss calls the employee into his office, the camera pans to a shot of a black worker watching as his co-worker is called in to be fired.

Racist!

Yep. The AFL-CIO believes that this ad had racial overtones because it stereotypes the idea that minorities have an advantage in the workplace because of affirmative-action policies. A spokesman for the AFL-CIO says, "This is the same old right wing dog whistle politics ... They're trying to use race and class to scare working people about a health care bill."

You know, of course, that there is no way to win with this advertisement. Let's consider the possibilities:

  1. Boss fires white guy as other white employees look on. AFL-CIO then issues press release saying that this commercial promotes the idea of a whites-only workplace and is, therefore, RACIST!
  2. Boss fires black guy with white co-workers looking on. AFL-CIO then issues press release saying that this commercial promotes the idea that black workers are the least worthy and, therefore, the ones that should be fired first and is, therefore, RACIST!
  3. Boss fires black guy while black co-workers look on. AFL-CIO then issues a press release saying that this commercial promotes the idea that black workers have poor personal health habits which will create a huge strain for employers leading to firings over ObamaCare and is, therefore RACIST!

The "R" word has become a joke. Since it's a joke it should be made fun of, derided and played with. People who scream "racism" with a straight face should be looked upon as demented. Also, the medical community should designate a special type of Tourette's Syndrome; one that identifies afflicted people who yell "racist" every third breath.

SOMEONE FINALLY GETS IT!

... Other than me, of course.

Here's your link to an article by Jesse Washington. Washington covers race and ethnicity for The Associated Press. Washington says that all of these claims of racism out there are taking a word that once had some power and turning it into nothing more than a spitball. He quotes one John McWhorter, who studies race and language at the Manhattan Institute: "It gets to the point where we don't have a word to use to call people racist who actually are."

Now isn't this just exactly what I've been saying for about ten years here on the show? How many times have I gone over the differences between prejudice, bigotry and racism? Enough to make my listeners scream in agony, that's for sure.

Washington goes to Webster's Dictionary for the current definition: "Someone who believes in the inherent superiority of a particular race or is prejudiced against others."

Now while I'm thrilled that someone has actually spoken up about the overuse of the "R" word, I want to address this "prejudiced against others" thing. As I said, this is the current definition. Go back a few decades and the "or is prejudiced against others" bit is not there. Why? That would be because prejudice against other is ... well ... it's prejudice. The word means "pre-judging." People do that all the time, and it doesn't make one racist.

Now my little example here is sure to cause the more ignorant among my Nuze readers to call me a "racist." Like that really matters any more. OK ... you're standing at an ATM withdrawing a few hundred bucks because there's a shoe sale down the street. While you're waiting for the machine to give you your card back a young black male walks purposely towards you. His pants are bunched up around his ankles, he's wearing a hoodie. One hand is grabbing his crotch and the other is in a pocket. You are immediately concerned for your safety. You have pre-judged this situation and your considered judgment is that this young stud is not coming up to you to compliment your hair. There ... you pre-judged a young black male. Does that make you racist? Well; what if this young black male was wearing a business suit? What if he had a briefcase instead of his crotch in one hand, and an ATM card in the other? You're not alarmed, are you? But wait! I thought you were a racist because you showed prejudice against a young black male? But now here you are confronted by another young black male .. and suddenly you're not a racist any more? The explanation, of course, is the young black male in the hoodie was representative of one culture, the black male in the business suit was representative of another. Your prejudice is based on culture, not skin color. Hardly something to support a charge of racism, is it?

Anyway ... we're making progress here. At least some members of the MSM are starting to look at the overuse of this word and trying to set the record straight.

JOE LOWERY - ALWAYS THE RACE PIMP

Well, as long as I'm blowing it out of my ... er ...um ... ears today - let's talk about that tired old race war lord Joseph Lowery. If there was anyone on the program yesterday that we could absolutely, positively depend on to play the part of the weird old race pimp, it would be Lowery; and what's more, he chose a prayer to toss his racial comments around.

A lot of conservative bloggers and pundits are up in arms over Lowery's benediction, "Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around... when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen. Say Amen'..."

Yeah .. those evil white bastards. We just have to get a little pointed remark into these proceedings somehow. We'll just ask the Almighty to make those white folks act right now that Obama is the president.

I've been aware of Rev. Lowery for decades. Without a racial grievance this man simply ceases to exist. Anyone who didn't expect him to get just a bit of a slam against the evil white man yesterday just wasn't aware of his history.

THE (NON) NEWS OF THE DAY

Liberals are irate over this story. Here's the scoop .. five days before the inauguration, the president-elect and his family move into the Blair House in Washington. But the Obamas have requested to move into the Blair House on January 5th so that their girls can start classes at their private school. But the Blair House turns out to be booked until January 15th for "receptions and gatherings" by members of the outgoing Bush administration.

Now you get the comments .. "the Bush's are just Obama-haters," "the Bush's should have been kicked out of Washington a long time ago," "the Republicans are stooping to a new low by attacking the Obama children."

Oh ... and don't forget the racism argument. This is one you're going to have to get used to. For the next four years - possibly the next eight years - every single time someone disagrees with a word that Obama says, or every time someone doesn't jump when Obama says "frog;" every slight of Obama, no matter how obscure, will be called racism. Obama, you understand, is perfection. There is only one reason in the world that anyone would ever disagree with one word from this man. Only one reason why anyone would ever deny him anything; and that would simply be because Obama is black.

This is going to get sooooooooo tiring.

HERE COME THE HATE CRIMES

Just yesterday I was setting myself up for a little "I told you so." There is a street down in Miami that will be renamed Barack Obama Avenue. And you just wait for the activists to cry "racism!" if your town refuses to rename a street in honor of Barack Obama.

Anyway, now get this report out of Atlanta ... since Barack Obama was elected, the number of hate crimes is on the rise. That is according to a civil rights group. Hundreds of incidents of abuse and intimidation have occurred since November 4th, and they seem to have been motivated by racial hatred. However most of them have not involved violence. Now this report comes from the Southern Poverty Law Center ... so I'm skeptical. Are we having more incidents? Or are more being reported. Or are more ordinary indicants being categorized as hate crimes? I don't like the concept of "hate crimes" anyway. If it's a crime, it's a crime. Punish the perp. You punish these people for what they did ... not for what they were thinking when they did it.

RACISM LOOKOUT

Well ... here we go. Opa-locka, Florida .. near Miami .. is going to rename Perviz Avenue to Barack Obama Avenue. Well isn't that special. So ... let me tell you what's coming. Opa-locka won't have the last Barack Obama Avenue, or Street, or Road, or Trail, or Boulevard .. or whatever. You're going to see more; and before too long you're going to see various "activists" screaming "racist" if their local community doesn't designate its own Barack Obama Something-or-other by the end of 2009. I'm just setting myself up for a sweet "I told you so" down the road a bit.

And please - don't forget. For the next four years any statement uttered by someone not black in opposition to any Obama initiative will either be (a) hate speech; or (b) a racist diatribe. Take your pick.
