There was a PEBCAK problem with Neal's notes this morning. So as you might have noticed, they aren't here. You'll just have to listen to get his words of wisdom. Good thing it's
Friday and we can get away with posting the kind of nonsense that's on here today.

For a bit more topical information, we're going to lean on Neal's twitter feed:

Oh, hey, while we're at it, here's Jamie Dupree's Twitter feed. Sorry, it got cranky about putting two feeds in one post. So you'll have to click through to see what Jamie has to say.

Our Washington correspondent Jamie Dupree is going through the health care bill page by page and bringing you information you won't get anywhere else.

Do you check Jamie Dupree's blog every day? Well, you should. He's keeping up with all the "excitement" surrounding the Sotomayor Supreme Court confirmation hearings. Jamie watches the hearings so you don't have to.

THE ONLY WAY OUT OF THIS

Jamie Dupree is fond of illustrating just how bad our budget situation is. We could eliminate every bit of discretionary spending in the federal budget and still be so deep in the tank we would not be able to see daylight ... and the spending is only going up. You could also levy a 99% income tax on every penny earned over $500,000 and all you would accomplish is to send waves of unbridled sensual joy through the hearts of the wealth envy crowd out there.

There is one way out of this ... one way short of government tyranny. We can grow the private sector economy. It was economic growth that wiped out much of our debt during the dot.com boom, and it will have to be economic growth again. The trouble is we now have an administration that only believes in growing government. Government doesn't produce wealth. Government seizes wealth. Growing government while damning the private sector only makes our problems worse. Now ... try to explain this to some government-educated young person who, like, voted, you know, for, like, change.

THE PLAN

Yesterday Obama released his plan to loosen up the credit markets. The Dow liked it, rallied 500 points. For those of you who really want the details, Jamie Dupree has the plan posted in its entirety.

Here's the gist .. The government in partnership with private investors will purchase bad assets from troubled financial institutions. If the value of the securities goes up, the private investors and taxpayers would share in the gains. If the values go down, the government (the taxpayers) and private investors would incur losses. The goal is to generate $500 billion in purchasing power by using $75 billion in TARP money, combined with private investment and loans from the FDIC and the Fed. And as we've already known, these toxic purchases could grow to $1 trillion.

It's wait and see time. At least Obama sees a role for the private sector. I have a fear though. What if the private sector entities who participate in this rescue end up making a lot of money? How quickly will Barney Frank et all start screaming for windfall profits? Remember, AIG has shown us that you can't trust the government to abide by a simple contract any more. Why trust the government in this?

This just in from Jamie:

Theodore "Teddy" Dupree made his appearance on Monday afternoon.  All is fine now with son and wife.  He weighed in at 9 lbs 6 oz, which was the most of the three Dupree children, who have all been above 8 1/2 pounds.  The reaction of the kids was muted.  One didn't say a thing, while the other responded by puking wildly on Grandma's carpeting and floors.  We assume the birth did not cause that :-)

Luckily, you people have finally given it a bit of a rest. But to put the final nail the coffin .. Supreme Court Justice Kennedy has denied the appeal of Philip Berg, that claims Obama is a citizen of Kenya or Indonesia and therefore cannot be president.

Great. Let's move on to more important things .. like how much George Bush hates the Obama kids because he won't let them move into the Blair House early.

Apparently Jamie Dupree is enjoying the abuse (who knew that about him?) He's over there on his blog begging for more.

Here's one of today's posts from Washington correspondent, Jamie Dupree. It's on a topic some of you really seem to love.

The Obama Conspiracy Rolls On

For the third time this month, the U.S. Supreme Court has rejected a lawsuit that sought to stay the results of the November elections because of concerns over Barack Obama's citizenship.

The latest case was brought by a Connecticut man who claims that Obama was a British subject when born (because of his father) which would make Obama ineligible to be President.
