GITMO DETAINEES GO TO THE COURTS

The Obama administration recently decided to release Mohammed Jawad from Guantanamo Bay. The Afghani man was 12 at the time he was detained back in 2002 hurling a grenade at a US vehicle in Kabul, injuring two American soldiers and their interpreter.

So now that Mohammed is a free man, he wants to sue Washington over his "illegal detention" ... holding him for seven years "without charges." Where's Ramsey Clark when you really need him?

Usually .. .you throw a grenade at U.S. troops, you're DRT. For those of you unfamiliar with the show, that means Dead Right There. So our troop recognize this Muslim thug is young and they spare his life. They can't leave him around to become an adult bomb-thrower though, so they detain him until they think the danger is passed. Now he wants to sue.

Is it too late to shoot the ungrateful little bastard?

HOW ABOUT A COMFORTING THOUGHT OF THE DAY

One out of every seven detainees that are freed from Guantanamo Bay ends up returning to terrorism. This according to the Pentagon. But Barack Obama wants to close up shop in Guantanamo Bay. Our government can't figure out what to do with the remaining prisoners. Doesn't all this make you feel so warm and fuzzy?

Change you can believe in? Housing terrorists in the US instead of Gitmo. How's that work for you?

DEMS AND GITMO

One of the first acts of Obama's administration was to begin the process of shutting down Guantanamo Bay. No one had actually thought about what to do with the prisoners - where to put them, how to try them - but the order to shut down Gitmo nonetheless. Now lawmakers have unveiled a bill to pay for military and diplomatic efforts. It costs well over $90 billion. One of Obama's requests that was not included in the bill was $50 million to relocate prisoners from Gitmo. Democrats in the House decided that they just weren't going to include it. They have no idea what to do with the prisoners, so the plan will go unfunded until further notice.

Don't worry though ... the money could be transferred at a later time, and without a vote that promises to be politically challenging.

I have two great suggestions for relocating the prisoners. Haiti or Berkeley. You choose.

One of Barack Obama's first acts as president was to close down Guantanamo Bay within one year. Now just two weeks later, we get this from Obama: he is worried that the detainees freed from Gitmo are going to return to a life of terrorism and attack the United States.

Oh, so now you tell us! What was your first clue, Mr. President? Funny how the responsibilities of the actual office will override campaign rhetoric, isn't it?

And yet Obama says that he closed the prison because it was a matter of upholding US values and law.

THE FIRST DAY

Ok .. just a few comments on Obama's first day in the Oval Office.

You will remember that one of the first things Clinton did when he took office was to pave the way for gays in the military. By that we must assume that Clinton placed a supreme importance on that issue. Obama? His first move was to stop the trials of accused Islamic terrorists and to move to close Gitmo. Right now intelligence experts are warning us that the Islamic goons want to hit us quick and hard under a new president, What sort of message is being sent to these Islamic terrorists? Is it possible that this is will be seen as a signal that Barack Obama will be soft on terrorism?

On the economic stimulus issue ... Obama's Treasury ("Pay taxes? Who, me?") is announcing a bold new plan to rescue the banks. I wonder if that bold plan includes nationalization. Something needs to be done to get banks lending money again. How do you encourage the banks to lend money again right now by spending $355 billion on highways and bridges next year. If you have an explanation, I would sure like to hear it.

Last night Obama took the oath of office again. Good. This time Justice Roberts got it right. That means we won't be getting idiotic phone calls from people saying that Obama really isn't the president because the Chief Justice flubbed it.

LIBERALS WILL GET THEIR WAY WITH GITMO

Within Obama's first week in office .. maybe on his first day .. we can expect him to issue an executive order to shut down Guantanamo Bay. He'll shut down Gitmo in order to fulfill one of his campaign promises and keep some his fidgety liberal barking moonbat supporters at bay. I say fidgety because some on the left are a little dumbfounded by some of Obama's centrist appointment thus far. And his proposal to provide tax cuts as part of his stimulus package .. what kind of Conservative hash must this guy be smoking? Tax cuts? Let those evil rich bastards keep their own money? Is he nuts?

So, two advisers to Obama's presidential transition team say that the order will come almost immediately. But this is when reality starts to kick in. Even Obama acknowledged over the weekend that closing Gitmo is going to be a challenge. In fact, even if he issues the executive order on day one, it is going to take a long time before you see the last Islamic terrorist goon leaving Cuba. And from there, Obama's team will probably create some sort of hybrid court system to deal with them. The danger is that if you let them into this country they suddenly have full Constitutional protections. That would not be a good thing.

That'll give the Left another countdown to monitor .. now that George Bush will be out of office.

CHANGES FOR GITMO DETAINEES

Another change that we can absolutely expect from an Obama administration is how to handle Guantanamo Bay. Well, Obama apparently knows how to handle it - close down the sucker. But then the question is ... what do you do with the lowlifes that are there?

Under an Obama plan, hundreds of imprisoned terrorism suspects could face criminal trials in the US. Others would be released. And some of the cases which carry highly classified information may end up going to a new court, designed by Obama advisors, which would be equipped to handle sensitive national security cases. You heard it, a new court system.

Here we see Obama running into some realities that he couldn't admit to during the campaign. If you bring these Islamic goons into this country they are immediately vested with full Constitutional rights. This means that if you put them on trial for their barbarism they get full rights of discovery .. the right to look into the government case, investigate and cross-examine the witnesses against them, file discovery motions and the rest of it. Our security operations will be greatly jeopardized and hampered by this nonsense ... but Obama has an irresponsible campaign pledge to fulfill. Let's see if he suddenly gets smart on this one.
