Yeah ... every where we turn we're hearing about some local government that is in budget trouble. Usually the discussion turns to tax increases. Here's a concept for you: Before any local government raises taxes on already-overburdened taxpayers that local government should eliminate all or most of its funding of "the arts." If a particular artist or artistic endeavor is worthy of support - then let the private sector step up. Any so-called "artist" who cannot produce a work of art that is marketable in the free marketplace should not be allowed to turn to government. In effect, these "artists" are forcing the people to buy works of art that nobody would voluntarily purchase. Have you ever noticed that most pieces of hideously ugly sculpture turn up in laws in front of government buildings? Point made.
